Competition Time!!

Since my last posting and, after reading members' comments, I have decided to start a new competition of the Graphic Art variety (and not music, as we have in the past).

From now, until the end of August, I am inviting members and affiliates to submit deviations to our 'Contest' folder with the subject 'Black and White' (our beloved piano key colours). At the end of the competition, all submissions will be put to public vote, and the winner will get 200 points, second place will get 100 points, and third place will get 50 points.

Rules

Colours used must be Black and White only .... no shades of grey are allowed. Just 2 colours - Black and White. Greyscale images will not be accepted. If you are not certain about what I mean, I have made an article on my own blog which explains 'anti-aliasing' (using shades to make smooth transitions from one colour to another). Images must be 800 x 600 pixels in size or, preferably, larger - no stamps or icons please.

Any member or affiliate can enter as many times as the group upload restrictions permit. Group administrators are also allowed to enter, as this is being judged by public vote.

Closing date is 31st August 2012.

Have fun creating, and let's have pure Black and White images coming in thick and fast!!

Suggestions please

We appear to be attracting members to this group, but appear to be unable to get any activities off the ground. All of my last ideas have disappeared into oblivion and nobody has entered into the spirit of any of our competitions.

If anyone has any suggestions as to what can get us moving once again, please let me know!!

Nothing to do here? Think again!!

OK guys, I'm a bit fed up of waiting for something to happen in this group, so we are now going to liven it up a little. As of now, I would like all lyricists to submit their lyrics to the Song Lyrics folder [link] .... once we have assembled a fair collection, we are all going to turn the lyrics into songs.

If you don't have manuscript software, I strongly recommend that you immediately download MUSESCORE which is very good, stable, works in Linux, Mac and even Windoze!!!

We are out to prove that this group is not dead and buried, so I need everyone to help me with this....

...the prize? We get ourselves an album on JAMENDO .

No, I don't yet know how this can happen, but we (collectively) will make it happen!

Lack of activity in the group

It's very sad to see that there has been very little activity within the group for months now, and I, for one, would like very much to see this change.

We have tried songwriting contests and other competitions, and they have all fallen on deaf ears so:-
I am asking for any of our members to come up with suggestions as to how we can get the members involved once again.

Any ideas? Please post to this blog entry and they will be considered. One of my other groups, #Ispirare runs contests all the time, so you might look there for inspiration.

Contest To Begin September 1

Hello members of #ThePianists I'm here to formally introduce the awards and judges of our upcoming contest.

Composition

Lyrics

Visual Design

A composer from this site will be paired with a lyricist to write a song together. The composer will be responsible for creating the sheet music and posting the first page as a deviation with a link to an audio file (whether it be on YouTube or Our stage etc). You should also link the deviation that has your partners lyrics and that of the visual design aid and add to [link] contest folder.

The lyricist will be responsible for communicating with your partnered composer. You can write the lyrics first - or the music. As long as in the end the words match up to the music written. You will upload the lyrics as a deviation and link both the visual aid and music in your comments and add to [link] contest folder.

The person responsible for the visual aid will be both in contact with the lyricist and composer to design a cover inspired by the words the music or both. They will then upload the deviation, linking it to their partners work and adding it to [link] contest folder.

*You can submit as many entries as you like, as long as you continue to submit them with two partners completing the entry objective.}

How should I communicate with my partners?

_{In the beginning it may be best just to chat via note on DeviantArt or email, as your work progresses you can communicate by webcam on websites like Skype, or even the telephone.}

How will this contest be judged?

_{Each category is judged separately, and judges are divided into specific category's. However all judges will vote on a winning team, that is the music lyrics and art of one overall project. Then there will be winners in each category. Remember only people who complete the collaboration with all partners will be judged.}

A donation pool will be created and all points saved until the end of the contest. At which time they will be divided three ways to all three partners.

First place winners From Each category will receive three month premium memberships from *PomPrint

With their permission their works (along with their partners works) will be recorded and added to Jamendo and Magnatune - making a a four track Album from DeviantArt.
